For the past twenty-two years, YPF has provided thousands of Chicago teens and tweens an outlet for expression.<br /><br />On June 12, Pegasus Players selected four winning plays at its annual Finalists & Honorable Mentions Announcement Event. The Winners of the 22nd Annual Chicago Young Playwrights Festival are:<br /><br />Molly McAndrew<br />A Rose in the Royal Court<br />Northside College Prep<br />Teacher: John Hahm<br /><br />Play synopsis: One night in the garden while waiting for her suitor Jacob, Rosaline meets and is wooed by William Shakespeare and becomes his muse.<br /><br /><br />Claire Rychlewski<br />Coffee Girl<br />Von Steuben High School<br />Teacher: Felix Flauta<br /><br />Play synopsis: Margaret, a 9 year old slave, returns to the big house to retrieve her shoes after giving them to the plantation owner’s volatile wife, who promised to have them mended.<br /><br />Laura Fernandez<br />Blooming Flowers in Weeds<br />Lane Tech High School<br />Teacher: Brian Telles<br /><br />Play synopsis: Julia, who has been frequenting the southern diner where the play is set, finally opens up to one of the waitresses, Candy, about the problems she’s having at home.<br /><br />Sarah Winters<br />Daydream Nation<br />Northside College Prep<br />Teacher: John Hahm<br /><br />Play Synopsis: Winter’s play is comprised of two short companion pieces centered on “characters’ interactions with the indie band Sonic Youth’s album, DAYDREAM NATION, and the truth and strains of being teenage.”<br /><br />YPF winning plays will receive professional productions at Pegasus Players, 1145 W.
